With the warmer weather upon us, it is fitting once again to remind ourselves of the importance of appropriate church dress for our Orthodox services. We should dress modestly, offering Christ our very best on the outside as well as on the inside of our hearts.
While they are suitable for teh summer weather in most other situations, shorts are not appropriate to be worn in church. Also, blue jeans are usually too casual for church (especially ones with patches and holes!). Likewise, t-shirts with printing on them are a distraction to others who are seeking to maintain their focus on the worship of God.
Ladies, please remember that dresses should be modest – tank-tops or tops with the midriff showing, low cut dresses, short skirts, or skin-tight dresses are not appropriate for church.
All in all, a good rule of thumb to remember is that you don’t go to church to be seen by everyone else, you go to meet and worship God!
